We're excited to share that the City of Arlington has been honored with the 2024 Cultural Diversity Award for the Passport Scholarship program offered through the Arlington Public Library. Presented by the National League of Cities, this award recognizes programs showcasing excellence and originality in fostering cultural diversity.

The Passport Scholarship program was designed to help students in the Arlington community obtain their first passport, allowing them to enrich their lives by immersing themselves in new cultural experiences. The program was launched in 2022 and funded by the Otis and Rosie Brown Foundation.

The Library’s goal of supporting learning and new experiences for residents, combined with the financial support of the Otis and Rosie Brown Foundation, allowed both groups to work together to create a process that allowed local students to apply for their first passport. The scholarships pay for students’ passport application, photo, and any associated processing fees.

This program supports the embracing of diverse cultures and the enrichment of our community with new ideas and fresh perspectives. It's dedicated to promoting fairness in travel by eliminating the initial hurdle for students eager to explore other cultures.
