Volunteer Opportunities

VolunteersHELP US HELP THE LIBRARY

FAPL is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt corporation.  Donations and contributions to the Friends are tax deductible.  The Friends encourages the donation of books, CDs, phonograph records, audio and video tapes, computer hardware and software.  Donations may be taken to any library location and the library will pass along to us any items not needed by the library system. Our volunteer members are people who enjoy books, libraries and working to make the library system even better. Volunteer opportunities are varied and available to suit any time schedule.

Book Sale:  Volunteers are invited to staff our semiannual book sales as cashiers, clerks and stockers.  Many hands are needed to assist in setting up and taking down the sale site.

Book Sorting:  Each book sale requires many hours of prep work.  Over 100,000 donated items are sorted and priced each year.  Sorting is done at our warehouse each Monday (9:00 am to noon) and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays (9:00 am to noon).  The warehouse/office is located at 2205 W. Division, Suite G-4 (on the right, way in the back).

Internet book sales:  Computer literate volunteers will enjoy helping with the sale of books on the internet.

Book and Author Luncheon:  The semiannual book and author luncheons are a great opportunity to contribute different talents.  Our tradition is to showcase metroplex authors.  Anyone who enjoys books and food will love working on  this committee.

Board and Committee Positions:  The Friends Board of Directors is a working board and each director is required to assume responsibility for a job of his/her choice.  These assignments offer an opportunity to become familiar with the workings of the Friends.

Recycle printer cartridges:  At each library location, we have placed a dispenser which contains pre-addressed and stamped envelopes to mail used printer cartridges to a recycler.  We receive money for all the cartridges recycled.

Paper recycling bin:  Our recycling bin is located at the warehouse location, between buildings “D” and “H”  on the west side of the center driveway.  Newspapers, magazines or anything which can be torn may be deposited in the bin (cardboard boxes must be flattened).

Book bags:  Sturdy canvas book bags are available for purchase at all the library locations.  They are convenient for all your trips to the library and make excellent gifts.
