George W. Hawkes Central Library
Session 1, Oct. 2-23 Ages 2-3
Session 2, Oct. 30-Nov.20 Ages 4-5
Thursdays,

Research has shown that children’s brains are most active during the preschool years. That is the best time to help them develop skills they will need to be successful in school. The Central library is proud to present a new program for parents and caregivers based on the successful Every Child Ready to Read @ Your Library materials developed by the Public Library Association. There are three major age divisions: Early Talkers (birth – 2 years), Talkers (2-3 years), and Pre-readers (4-5 years). Techniques and activities for Early Talkers will be incorporated into the Bouncing Babies weekly story times presented on Friday mornings. Information for working with Talkers (2-3 years) will be presented in a four-week series, October 2-October 23, followed by another four-week series for Pre-readers, October 30-November 20. Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions for each age group, although it is not required. Children are welcome to attend with their parents. Part of each program will be devoted to reading with the children.
