WELCOME TO Arlington Library Information System
(ALIS Brochure in printable PDF format)
You may place reserve requests, access your account, and renew items using ALIS.
You will need the barcode number of your APL library card and a password. You can get a password at any Arlington Public Library Circulation or Reference Desk or by calling any Arlington Public Library.
Please have your card available when you call or visit.
Accessing Your Library Account
You can view the following information in your library account:
- General information (i.e. name, address, phone number).
- Items you have checked out.
- Items you have requested.
- Any current charges on your account.
- Change your password (ONLY when successfully logged into the account)

Displaying Your Library Account
- Click on Quick Links on the right side of the Library’s Homepage or click on Patron Account in the catalog.
- Click on My Account.
- Enter your Library Card Number in the “Barcode Number” box.
- Enter your password in the Password box.
- Click Log In.
Checking Your Reserves/Requests
- Access your account (follow the Displaying Your Library Account instructions above).
- Click on Requests.
- A list of your requests with their status will display.
- If an item shows a status of HELD, please pick it up as soon as possible.
Canceling Your Reserves/Requests
- Click on Requests.
- A list of your requests with their status will display.
- Click in the check box column next to each request you want to cancel (a check mark will show in the box after you click on it).
- Click on Cancel Selected Requests.
- If you want to cancel ALL of your requests, click on Cancel All Requests.
NOTE! Only “Active” reserves may be cancelled.
Displaying Fine & Fees and Items Out
- Click on Items Out for information about items checked out.
- Click on Fines & Fees for information about charges to your account.
Placing Reserves/Requests
Reserves, now called Requests in ALIS, are made while searching the Library Catalog.
- Search the Library Catalog and locate the item you wish to request.
- Click on Place Request.
- Enter the barcode number on your Library Card in the Barcode number entry box.
- Enter your Password in the Password entry box.
- Select the Library where you would like to pickup the item by clicking on the arrow to the right of the Pickup Library box.
- Click on Submit Request.
- A dialog box will appear with the following message: Your hold request has been placed.
- Click on Close.
You will be notified by phone when the item you requested arrives at the pickup library you selected.
*Don’t forget to logoff! Click Log out at the top or bottom of the screen.
Renewing Items
Access your account following above instructions.
- Click on Items Out.
- Click in the check box column next to each item you want to renew. (A check mark will show in the box after you click on it.)
- Click on Renew Selected Items.
- If the item was renewed, a message will appear showing it was renewed. Click on Back to see the new due date. Your renewed item should be at the bottom of the list.
- If you want to renew ALL items, click on Renew All Items.
- If an item CANNOT be renewed, a message will appear to say why. Please contact the library if you have further questions.
- The column on the right indicates how many renewals are available.
- Items may NOT be renewed more than once or if another person has requested the item.
