Adopt-A-Book

The Library’s Adopt-a-Book program is a distinctive way to honor someone while simultaneously supporting the Library. Whether it is in memoriam or a tribute to a birthday, anniversary, or other special day, your donation enables us to buy books that enrich lives. In return, the Library will send a letter acknowledging your gift to the family or individual of your choice and a personalized bookplate will be attached to the purchased materials.

Gold Card members are those individuals who donate $100 or more through the Adopt-a-Book program. Gold card members receive special benefits, including a gold library card, a recognition gift, special event invitations, and quarterly new book preview nights.

Arlington Public Library Foundation

APL Foundation LogoAs a nonprofit organization, the Arlington Public Library Foundation provides a source of financial assistance to the Arlington Public Library through the solicitation of tax-deductible contributions from private sources that enable the System to achieve library offerings beyond those normally provided by tax dollars. For example the Foundation has funded Children’s Learning Centers at four of our library locations.

The Arlington Public Library Foundation Board of Directors has identified the following funding priorities:

  The Studio
This will be a center for teens located on the lower level of the Central Library (as well as virtually, on the Library's website) that integrates information, technology, and creativity to help teens excel in their everyday school work, as well as supporting the development of their creative skills.  Monies raised will fund interior design, construction, computer equipment, furnishings, and teen collection materials.  The total funding goal is $118,000.

    Take Me There
A redesigned transportation-themed Children's Department  in the Central Library will be bright, inviting, and appealing to both children and parents.  Monies raised will fund new furniture, transportation-related carpet cutouts, a story room mural, shelving end panels and canopy tops, signage, and an interactive play station.  The total funding goal is $86,000.
    George W. Hawkes Endowment
Because of Mr. Hawkes' influence on our city and because of his love of the written word, it is his name that will guide our efforts to ensure that there are quality library materials available for generations to come.  To contribute to the George W. Hawkes Endowment, you may make a current donation or you may include the Foundation as a beneficiary in your will.  Funds raised through the Endowment are added to an account and the interest on that account is used to support the collections of the Central Library.

    Bricks for Books
The Arlington Public Library System will open its 7th facility in the fall of 2006 at 3311 Southwest Green Oaks Boulevard.  It is our goal to raise $25,000 to further enhance the Southwest Branch Library's book collection by selling engraved bricks that will be located around the flagpole, just outside the front entrance of the library.  Buying a brick is a permanent and meaningful way to recognize someone, while at the same time enhancing the appearance of your library!

Participating in Local Business Contribution Programs is an easy way you can help the  Arlington Public Library Foundation raise funds for your library system when you shop.

The Foundation is a member of Tom Thumb’s Good Neighbor Program.  When our patrons link their Reward Cards to the Foundation’s number (9158), their purchases are credited to our account.  Then, at the end of each quarter, Tom Thumb pays us 1% of our account total.

Through Albertson's Community Partners program, you can link your Preferred Savings card to the Arlington Public Library Foundation's id# 49001001554.  Then, when you shop at Albertson's, up to 3% of your eligible purchases will support the Arlington Public Library.  Go to www.albertsons.com and follow the Community Partners links, click on "Sign Me Up", and enter the Foundation's number; or pick up a registration brochure at your neighborhood Albertson's.

The Foundation is also a member of the Kroger Cares Gift Card Program.  Every time you use a Kroger Gift Card to buy groceries, 1% of your total bill will go to the Arlington Public Library Foundation. You can get a Kroger Gift Card by emailing your request to adavis@apl-foundation.org

For additional information, please call 817-459-6924 or visit the Foundation web site.

Friends of the Arlington Public Library

Friends of APL logoThe Friends of the Arlington Public Library is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to supporting the Arlington Public Library System. Funds are raised for special library purposes and programs through semi-annual book sales and Book and Author luncheons.

The Friends encourage and accept donations of books, compact discs, phonograph records, audio and video cassette tapes, computer hardware and software. Donations can be delivered to any Arlington Public Library location or to the FAPL warehouse located at 2205 W. Division, Suite G-4 on Monday mornings from 9:00 am to noon or on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 9:00 am to noon.  Volunteers are invited to help staff the semiannual book sales.  Many hands are needed to assist in setting up and taking down the sale site.  Over 100,000 donated items are sorted and priced each year by volunteers.

Sturdy Bookbags are available for purchase at all the library locations. They are very convenient for all your trips to the library and they make excellent gifts.

Our newest fund raising project is Printer Cartridge Recycling. Empty printer cartridges should not be thrown in the trash, where they will become solid waste in the landfill. At each of the Arlington library locations, there is a dispenser with envelopes for recycling used inkjet printer cartridges. You can help by taking a postage-paid envelope when you visit the library. Place an empty cartridge in the envelope, seal it and drop it in any mailbox. The envelopes are barcoded to the Friends and when they reach the recycler, they will be scanned and credited to our account.

For additional information, please call 817-548-9768 or visit their web site at www.fapl.org.
