Teen Webisode Auditions!

The world’s first sci-fi teen soap opera has arrived at the Lake Arlington Branch Library! This show, called The Topic, tells the story of a king’s granddaughter, Mardge Samedi. Mardge and her best friend follow a police officer on his investigation of a kidnapped lawyer. The two girls have no idea at that time how drastically their lives are about to change...  

Grasp the opportunity to star in this new teen drama, which will be rehearsed, recorded during a live audience performance, and then uploaded online!  If auditioning for a speaking role please bring a photograph and a memorized monologue.  If auditioning for a singing/dancing role, you must also have a memorized song/routine ready to perform.

Pirate Attack! Card Game

Pirates have buried their treasure somewhere in the village of Tabula and now they’ll do anything to keep its secret safe, including disguising themselves as hapless villagers.  If we can’t figure out who they are, no one in Tabula will be safe!  Join us for a fast-paced, role-playing card game unlike any you’ve ever played before.
Harry Potter Mania!

Come celebrate all things Harry Potter exactly one week before the new movie comes out!  We test your muggle brain with trivia and have Harry Potter themed crafts followed by the showing of the most recent movie out on DVD!

Video Editing 101

If you fancy yourself the next Stephen Spielberg then we invite you to learn the basics of how videos are put together.  Using Adobe Premiere, we will navigate the basics of importing, editing and completing digital videos.

Studio members are encouraged to attend.  If you are not a Studio member and are 13-18 years of age, then bring your personal library card and a photo ID (or parent with ID) and we can make you a Studio member!   Because of the limited number of computers, you must call the Central Library and reserve a laptop.  Please call 817-459-6900 or sign up in the Studio to reserve a spot.

Modifying your MySpace Pics with Photoshop

If you have personal photos to put on your MySpace page, but want to crop, color, fix, or enhance them first, then we invite you to learn the basics of Photoshop.  You can upload your finished photos onto your MySpace page!

Audio Editing 101

Teens!  Learn the basics of audio editing by using the computer programs GarageBand and Audacity. Guitarist Danny Olmeda will wow you with his GarageBand skills. If you love gaming you’ll love this!  Every Friday and Saturday this summer the Studio offers free-play gaming on the big screen TV! Games such as Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Soul Calibur III will be available to play. All the equipment will be provided so just bring yourself and your friends! 

A Studio ID is required but free to all teens ages 13 to 18 who show their own Arlington Public Library card and bring either a picture ID or a parent with ID.

Write a Review, Get a Free Book!
Library Ninja Blog for teens

Write a 1-3 paragraph review of your favorite book and send it to the Ninja!  If your review is used in the blog we will give you a free book!  Go to the teen's  Library Ninja Blog and click on the 'Email Us' link at the top to email your review.  Anyone in grades 7-12 is eligible. Limited to one free book per month, per teen.
Submit your art to our online Teen Zine - The Gallery

laptopTeens, submit your original art, photographs, movies, music, writings, and more to the Library’s online Teen Zine – The Gallery.  This is a great opportunity to display your talent!  Visit The Gallery online to read submission rules and remember to take advantage of all the professional software the Studio has to offer! 
Teen Library Council

The TLC is a group of teens who meet at their local library. They make suggestions to expand the library’s collection of books, movies, music, and magazines to reflect the changing interests of teens. They also provide exciting, interesting, and informative programs to share with the public.  Check the Teen Library Council page to see how to get involved at your local library!
Teen Movie During the Summer!

Relax with your friends and watch a movie at your local library branch! All participating Arlington Library branches will only show movies rated PG-13, PG, or G. This program is for ages 13-18. See the Teen Movie Night page for more details!

Summer Zine
Summer Paper ‘Zine – Write Your Thoughts about Time

We want your poems, stories, essays, comics, sketches! We are creating the first ever Arlington Library Teen Summer ‘Zine. During the months of June and July all branches will collect work by Arlington teens that represent the theme of the ‘Zine. Submissions will be chosen, “published” in the ‘Zine, and distributed at the Summer Reading Club Final Party. Submission guidelines are as follows:  

Theme: Time. Anything to do with Time. Anything at all.
Format: Create your work on half a sheet of unlined white paper (make sure it’s 5 ½ by 8 ½). Please use a black pen, not pencil (it won’t show up). Include your first and last name, age, email address, library branch, and phone number on a separate sheet paper-clipped to your submission.
Deadline: Friday, July 24 Tips: Keep it clean please! Be creative!  We love creativity!
