Make stylish scrunchies with your personal touch! This project will help improve hand-sewing skills, and can also be a good project to learn hand sewing. In addition to helping with concentration and motor skills, hand sewing has been proven to help with stress and overall mental health. Lets get started!

  • Scissors

  • The fabric of Choice (thinner fabrics tend to work best for this)

  • Hair elastics, rubber bands, or a tied elastic

  • Sewing Needles

  • Thread

  • A tape measure or ruler

  1. Start by cutting your piece of fabric to be 3 ½ inches by 22 inches, it does not have to be perfect.

  2. Thread your needle and tie a knot at the end, you need about 36 inches of thread.

  3.  Fold your fabric halfway with the wrong side out and place your hair elastic where the two ends meet and sew around the elastic. *Remember to tie a knot at the base of your final stitch before you cut the thread to ensure that the stitches will stay in place.

  4. When you reach the end slowly start turning the fabric inside out.
  5. Finally, sew the two ends together and you’re done!
