UPDATE - There are no more available AARP appointments for the Downtown Library or the Southwest Branch. 

Tax season has arrived, and the Arlington Public Library is here to help. We’ve partnered with AARP and VITA to offer free tax preparation assistance.

AARP Tax-Aide

Tax-Aide from AARP will be available at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library and the Southwest Branch Library starting Wednesday, February 1, through Tax Day, April 18, 2023.

Patrons must go in person to their preferred location, either Southwest or Downtown, to schedule appointments. Staff will be unable to schedule them over the phone. Sign-ups will open on Thursday, January 26 at both locations. An appointment binder will be available for the public at each location for patrons to fill in their name in an appointment slot

 

George W. Hawkes Downtown Library

Tax-Aide appointments at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library are available at the following times

  • Tuesday, 2 - 6 p.m.
  • Friday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

No appointments available at the Downtown Library on Friday, April 7.

Southwest Branch Library

Tax-Aide appointments at the Southwest Branch are available at the following times

  • Wednesday, noon – 5 p.m.
  • Friday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Saturday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

No appointments available at the Southwest Branch on Saturday, February 18; Saturday, March 11; Saturday, April 1; and Friday, April 7.

All library locations will be closed on Monday, February 20, for President’s Day, and Friday, April 7, for Good Friday.

AARP has provided free tax preparation and filing services for more than 68 million low- and moderate-income taxpayers since 1968. Tens of thousands of volunteers assist taxpayers at libraries nationwide. Find out more about the program here.

VITA – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

United Way of Tarrant County is proud to provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), free tax preparation assistance for individuals and households with an annual income of $60,000 or less. Through VITA, qualifying individuals receive quality tax preparation services by IRS-certified volunteers.

VITA will offer walk-in appointments at the East Library and Recreation Center from January 23 through April 15, 2023, at the following times:

  • Monday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Saturday 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the dates listed below:
    • February 4
    • February 18
    • March 4
    • March 18
    • April 1
    • April 15

All appointment are walk-in and first come, first served.

What to bring to your VITA appointment:

  • Photo ID
  • Original Social Security card or ITIN for everyone listed on the tax return
  • Copy of last year’s tax return
  • All W-2 wage statements for 2022
  • SSA-1099, 1099-R and 1099-G
  • Cash income amount and work expenses
  • 1095 health coverage form
  • Direct deposit information

Public Library Computers to file taxes

Our public computers are available for use for those who would like to file their taxes online. There are a number of sites that offer e-filing services; some free and some fee-based. Payment may need to be submitted online by entering credit card or debit account information. A valid email address is necessary in order to file taxes electronically.
