May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI Heritage Month). This is a time to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans. AAPI encompasses all of East, Southeast and South Asia, as well as the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. This includes countries like Japan, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Qatar, Syria and many more. As of 2019 there is an estimated 22.4 million Asian Americans living in the United States.¹

The accomplishments and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders can be seen in American culture through sports, music, politics, film, and more. We invite you to check out books from authors like Rohinton Mistry, Helen Hoang, Ocean Vuong, Mohsin Hamid, Viet Thanh Nguyen, Celeste Ng, Khaled Hosseini, and Megha Majumdar.
